I know it's a couple of hours before 2010 hits the calendars, but since I have this habit of avoiding the holiday rush, I'm making this now.
2009 like any other year for me, has been a bittersweet mix of ups and downs.
Work
*I got a new job assignment. I can't tell yet if I'm doing ok or not, but 2010 spell everything.
*2009's been my 3rd year in the university. Do I smell a promotion in the air? Naaaahhhhhhhhh. I'll leave it to the higher ups.
*My former BFF's working with me now. Along with it, the breaking of the ice of a three-year rift between her and me.
School
*I'm taking up my MA! Yaaay!
Relationships/Family
*I lost both grandparents (father side) this year.
*No wedding on the cards for me, yet.
*My family finally decided to forego their share of my pay, which enabled me to do so many things I wanted to do for years.
*I got a cat!
*I LOST WEIGHT.
Material Stuff
*My laptop broke down.
*Bought a netbook.
*I think I spent more on this year.
I don't think I'd have any new resolutions for 2010 except:
1.I gotta save some MONEY. Seriously.
2.Reach out more to people.
3.Be a better blogger.
So, goodbye 2009, hello 2010! I won't be welcoming you with open arms, but yes, you may come in through the door.

Bits and Pieces and Beads...
Time for a jumbled post!
Maybe I was too busy to take a look or it might be just plain procrastination or what, but the kitty I've been calling a "she" is actually a "he". Furball or FB has grown so much since he was adopted by my family months ago. Here's a snap from his younger kitty days:

**********************
I don't know what got into me, but I suddenly bought tons of blue wallpaper and did in a few days what usually would take me weeks to do: wallpaper my room. And they say the cold months are "lazy" months.
**********************
It's a few days before Christmas (which of course, I don't celebrate) but I am up to the knees in paper work. I'll have a long night tonight so I could finish it by morning. Even my boss feels the pressure from her higher ups.
**********************
I don't have anything much to do with Christmas, but I got gifts just the same (the department and college where I work ritually exchange gifts on this season) and most of them were mugs. It's nice to receive stuff, let's admit it, especially when you love what you get.
**********************
Still on gifts:
I've followed these rules when it comes to giving gifts, whatever the occasion:
1. Give something the person will really use.
- nice if you know the person's size when it comes to giving clothes. But that's risky. Coffee mugs, one of a kind pens, and other useful stuff are usually safe to give. Ornamental items are good only when you know the taste of the receiver.
2. Food.
- this is also ok, as long as you know that the recipient likes fruitcake or chocolate or sugar-free toffees. However, if you know that somebody's got some special dietary requirements, a fruit basket is safe.
3. Gadgets
- not everybody's a techie, so go slow on these things when you know that the receiver is a person who can barely operate a mobile phone!
4. Costly stuff
-gifts don't have to cost an arm and a leg. Even simple gifts go the distance, especially when well-thought of. Scout for items on sale, or go for generic-branded items.
5. For kids
-when it comes to kids, I try to be a good influence. I usually steer away from giving candy or video games as gifts . Often I give a good book, a building blocks set, jigsaw puzzles,an art set, anything to stimulate the mind.
*********************
Since the cold weather began, I found it harder to do my laundry. I know it's expensive, but the laundromat has been a convenient way to get the clothes washed and dried. If I did it the normal way, I would have to wait ages for the clothes to dry.
*********************
Strangely enough I had some ice cream in spite of the cold. In spite of the cold, the whole office and I went to the swimming pool to party. In spite of the cold, I still had the gumption to wallpaper my room, put new curtains, and get some pieces of storage furniture.

It's Official:The Cold Months Are Here!

Today the first fog of December has arrived here, and so the cold months are here. This snapshot was taken by me when a pal and I sat on the university soccer field. The fogs are a major feature of the climate here up in the hills, and the first fog is always greeted by everyone by going outdoors and walking through the thick mist.
