Taxed...at Being Taxed

In my country two months from now, we'll be asked to file income tax returns.

Ok, so it's a citizen's duty to pay his taxes and file returns...right?

RIGHT.

But what if the Bureau of Internal Revenue doesn't...

...deduct the right amount from your salary as witholding tax?

...give refunds when it's supposed to be given?

...inform the person that he's been overpaying his witholding tax?

...all of the above?

Frankly speaking, the government OWES me around 6,000 bucks. Refund? Don't even think about it! The local BIR often are worse thieves than your neighborhood pickpocket. And don't forget those guys and gals in the accounting department who are too lazy to calculate the right amount for deduction so you don't end up with a refund you won't be able to claim anyway!

And to get back at them, I plan to see and find out if they've deducted the wrong amount again this year. I've tried going to the BIR to see if I could get those 6,000 bucks, but no, they don't offer refunds. The nerve. Let them go to hell for keeping money that isn't theirs.

The BIR still lives up to its reputation as one of the most corrupt government institutions. Overtaxing the taxpayer could be an institutional programme by the agency as a means to legalize wealth-grabbing from citizens.

Somehow OFWs like me are fortunate not to have been constant preys by these vultures in the government.

Btw, your new abode rocks!

Hay naku! Ako nga, two years ago, 'di ba, hindi ako nabayaran sa emergency oad ko tapos na-tax-an ako doon. So, according to my income tax return, I owed the BIR. In reality, it's the government that owes me! Dang!

Doubly nakakabanas pa to think na 'yung pinaghihirapan natin na ibayad ng tax, nanakawin lang nila at barya lang para sa kanila! Hmph! :O!
